- All creations should be original work written specifically for the exchange. No LLM AI should be used to create the work. Stories may be any length.
- Assignments are to create a remix. As the moderator, I will email the story for you to remix to your email address you entered on the Google form when you signed up. The story's creator will be anonymous. Please keep your creation under wraps until revealed, to preserve the anonymity of assignments.
How to sign up: You will submit a story to the month's subcollection, then fill in a google form to sign up. You will receive an email at the email you provide in the google form instructing you of how your story must be labeled once signups are complete. You'll need to consult the moderator list of "warned content" and list all of the items that your story contains (these are things someone DNWd in their signup, and in order to do matching, I'll need to know all of them so as not to assign anyone a story that contains any of their DNWs without me having to read and check every story myself)
What information you need to provide: Your DNWs, and which category or categories of Original Work you're interested in remixing. You do not need to write the same category of story that you choose to remix. There will be overlap in the categories; many stories will fall in multiple categories. For matching, I'll do my best to match you with a story you will enjoy, but that's not guaranteed. Only that it will not contain your DNWs is guaranteed.

Assignments will be sent by the 5th day of each month. Assignments will be due on the 25th day of each month. New participants may join by writing an original story at any time without an assignment. Pinch hits may be available and will be listed by category; pinch hitters will need to provide DNW lists if they have any content that would prevent them from creating a remix.

Emails will go out by Dec 20. Stories must be complete with listed warnings and categories by Dec 25.
Assignments will go out by Jan 1. Remixes will be due on Jan 19th, 2026.
Any participant who fulfills their assignment, and does not post on the screened moderation post or email the moderator (by replying to the email you receieved from the moderator) that they wish to cease participating, will be automatically rolled into the next round without having to sign up again. However, you can email or post at any time to update your DNW list, your preferred categories, or any "do not match" requests.
New participants will be allowed to sign up each month, using the Google form, after writing and submitting an original work. There may also be opportunities to remix works that didn't get a remix the first time, whether due to a default or a lack of a match being available. Such "pinch hit" equivalents will be posted here on the community.
On Feb 1, the works submitted in December will be revealed anonymously.
On March 1, the remixes and new works submitted in January will be revealed anonymously, and the authors of the December works will be revealed.
The "rolling remix" will continue in this manner for all of 2026, if at all possible.

Date: 2026-01-20 01:25 am (UTC)I have heard that the February collection will have an extended deadline (specifically that it will be open through the 21st). Can you please confirm this and/or update the calendar to match? I learned this thirdhand and if the calendar has changed, it would be good to know and learn it directly from the source, whether that's the AO3 page or this community.

Date: 2026-01-20 03:12 am (UTC)Because I learned about this through someone asking ME if it was true (when I had no idea) — is there somewhere else information is being shared regarding deadlines, etc? If there is, it might be a good idea to update the community info to make it clear where that is (if there's a Discord/Bluesky/Tumblr, etc and if it's expected that we'll join them — I didn't see anything linked in the signup info and there's nothing about it here, so if it exists, please know that at least one participant is not aware of it and if you are sharing information there, it's not reaching everyone interested in participating).
Going forward, I would really appreciate it if information could be posted either here or AO3 whenever deadlines change, if they do. I know that life happens and sometimes things come up, but it is really awkward to end up as a participant in the exchange without a clear idea of what is being shared where ♥

It's not your responsibility to answer everyone's question about an exchange you partcipate in, though I'm pleased you wanted to help out that way.

The AO3 outage is definitely not something that any of us were expecting, I think, and that definitely throws a wrench into things. Will admit, I was also curious if there was an official Discord for this, because I like Discord (I use it a lot for tabletop stuff), and I know it can be more immediate than DW for getting answers or clarification. Sometimes it's easier to talk stuff out! :)
